Servigistics Commitment to Accessibility

Servigistics is committed to develop products, technologies and services that are accessible and usable by all people regardless of their capabilities. On an ongoing basis, we will strive to build relationships with the disability community to help us better understand and respond to all customer needs.

We at Servigistics believe that Section 508 is good for industry, government and, most importantly, for people with disabilities. We will work closely with federal IT managers and fellow technology-industry leaders to comply with the Section 508 regulations. Our hope is that Section 508 will encourage more competition and innovation on accessible technology - that will, in turn, lead to more people with disabilities finding employment that suits their talents and skills.

What is Section 508?

On August 7, 1998, President Clinton signed into law the Rehabilitation Act Amendments of 1998, which covers access to federally funded programs and services.

"The law strengthens section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and requires access to electronic and information technology provided by the Federal government. The law applies to all Federal agencies when they develop, procure, maintain, or use electronic and information technology. Federal agencies must ensure that this technology is accessible to employees and members of the public with disabilities to the extent it does not pose an 'undue burden.' "

Section 1194.21 Software Applications and Operating Systems - Detail
Voluntary Product Accessibility Template
Criteria Supporting Features Remarks and Explanations
(a) When software is designed to run on a system that has a keyboard, product functions shall be executable from a keyboard where the function itself or the result of performing a function can be discerned textually. Supported All Servigistics applications make use of existing common operating system and common internet browser functionality to include keyboard features such as StickyKeys, FilterKeys, and MouseKeys.
(b) Applications shall not disrupt or disable activated features of other products that are identified as accessibility features, where those features are developed and documented according to industry standards. Applications also shall not disrupt or disable activated features of any operating system that are identified as accessibility features where the application programming interface for those accessibility features has been documented by the manufacturer of the operating system and is available to the product developer. Supported Servigistics supports all operating system accessibility features such as High Contrast and Narrator, as well as the keyboard accessibility features mentioned above. Servigistics applications do not disable any known operating system accessibility features.
(c) A well-defined on-screen indication of the current focus shall be provided that moves among interactive interface elements as the input focus changes. The focus shall be programmatically exposed so that Assistive Technology can track focus and focus changes. Supported Servigistics applications make use of existing common operating system and common internet browser functionality that provide an inherent focus mechanism. The position of programs' focus is not blocked from being made available to assistive technologies.
(d) Sufficient information about a user interface element including the identity, operation and state of the element shall be available to Assistive Technology. When an image represents a program element, the information conveyed by the image must also be available in text. Supported Where images are used (e.g., icons), text-based prompts are also included in the browser window.
(e) When bitmap images are used to identify controls, status indicators, or other programmatic elements, the meaning assigned to those images shall be consistent throughout an application's performance. Supported As above, consistent text-based prompts are available where images exist.
(f) Textual information shall be provided through operating system functions for displaying text. The minimum information that shall be made available is text content, text input caret location, and text attributes. Supported Standard operating system functionality has been incorporated and maintained throughout Servigistics software, and standard system functions are employed to send textual information to the operating system. Servigistics does not interfere with those mechanisms.
(g) Applications shall not override user selected contrast and color selections and other individual display attributes. Supported The default color and contrast themes that are shipped with Servigistics applications do not, by design, support user changes. Servigistics does, however, maintain a capability for the system administrator to easily change the default desktop appearance with simple modifications of a style sheet, thus ensuring that unique user requirements can always be easily addressed.
(h) When animation is displayed, the information shall be displayable in at least one non-animated presentation mode at the option of the user. Not Applicable Servigistics does not use animation.
(i) Color coding shall not be used as the only means of conveying information, indicating an action, prompting a response, or distinguishing a visual element. Supported All data elements can be modified within their style sheets, allowing changes of color, fonts, backgrounds, foregrounds, patterns, and borders
(j) When a product permits a user to adjust color and contrast settings, a variety of color selections capable of producing a range of contrast levels shall be provided. Supported Same as response (g) above
(k) Software shall not use flashing or blinking text, objects, or other elements having a flash or blink frequency greater than 2 Hz and lower than 55 Hz. Not Applicable Servigistics does not use flashing or blinking text.
(l) When electronic forms are used, the form shall allow people using Assistive Technology to access the information, field elements, and functionality required for completion and submission of the form, including all directions and cues. Supported All input form information can be accessed through assistive technology as required.

Section 1194.22 Web-based Internet information and applications - Detail
Voluntary Product Accessibility Template
Criteria Supporting Features Remarks and Explanations
(a) A text equivalent for every non-text element shall be provided (e.g., via "alt", "longdesc", or in element content). Supported All data elements can be modified within their style sheets, allowing changes of color, fonts, backgrounds, foregrounds, patterns, and borders. Additionally, tags are always viewable when selected via the browser interface. Where images are used (e.g., icons), text-based prompts are viewable in the browser window. Servigistics applications can also meet supported accessibility functionality by using screen readers such as JAWS for Windows or screen magnifiers such as MAGic. Servigistics does not supply these third party products or provide price quotes for them
(b) Equivalent alternatives for any multimedia presentation shall be synchronized with the presentation. Not applicable Servigistics applications do not employ multimedia presentations.
(c) Web pages shall be designed so that all information conveyed with color is also available without color, for example from context or markup. Supported Servigistics supports all operating system accessibility features such as High Contrast and Narrator. In addition, all data elements can be modified within style sheets to allow information to be viewed without color.
(d) Documents shall be organized so they are readable without requiring an associated style sheet. Supported This feature is supported within standard browser functionality. Stylesheets are used only to provide a more aesthetic display and are independent of document structure, allowing readability without requiring stylesheets.
(e) Redundant text links shall be provided for each active region of a server-side image map. Not Applicable Servigistics applications do not employ server-side image maps.
(f) Client-side image maps shall be provided instead of server-side image maps except where the regions cannot be defined with an available geometric shape. Not Applicable Servigistics applications do not employ client-side image maps.
(g) Row and column headers shall be identified for data tables. Supported All data tables have row and column headers.
(h) Markup shall be used to associate data cells and header cells for data tables that have two or more logical levels of row or column headers. Not Applicable Servigistics applications do not employ data tables with two or more rows of row or column headers.
(i) Frames shall be titled with text that facilitates frame identification and navigation Not Applicable Servigistics applications do not employ the use of frames.
(j) Pages shall be designed to avoid causing the screen to flicker with a frequency greater than 2 Hz and lower than 55 Hz. Supported Servigistics page design avoids screen flicker. However, if such a page should appear, it would immediately be modified to remove any such flicker. All pages can additionally be tailored via style sheets to suit user’s preferences.
(k) A text-only page, with equivalent information or functionality, shall be provided to make a web site comply with the provisions of this part, when compliance cannot be accomplished in any other way. The content of the text-only page shall be updated whenever the primary page changes. Not Applicable Servigistics is a web-based application, not a web site; however, text-only equivalent pages are not necessary because Servigistics applications comply with all other paragraphs of §1194.22.
(l) When pages utilize scripting languages to display content, or to create interface elements, the information provided by the script shall be identified with functional text that can be read by Assistive Technology. Not Applicable Scripting languages are not employed to display content.
(m) When a web page requires that an applet, plug-in or other application be present on the client system to interpret page content, the page must provide a link to a plug-in or applet that complies with §1194.21(a) through (l). Not Applicable Applets and plug-ins are not employed in Servigistics applications.
(n) When electronic forms are designed to be completed on-line, the form shall allow people using Assistive Technology to access the information, field elements, and functionality required for completion and submission of the form, including all directions and cues. Supported Servigistics applications make use of all existing operating system and common internet browser functionality to enable assistive technology, such as StickyKeys, FilterKeys, and MouseKeys.
(o) A method shall be provided that permits users to skip repetitive navigation links. Supported Servigistics applications fully support criteria methods to skip repetitive navigation links.
(p) When a timed response is required, the user shall be alerted and given sufficient time to indicate more time is required. Not Applicable Timed responses are not required within Servigistics applications, and the user has control over the timing of content changes
